When should you book your newborn photos?
It can be tricky deciding when to get your professional newborn photographs done. For many it is something you only do once so the timing of these precious portraits is an important decision. It is best to organise the photos before your baby arrives. It will take the stress out of organising it later on. Here is my handy guide to help you make an informed decision.
Newborn: The first few weeks
The best time for newborn photos is ideally 7 to 10 days old. As babies are still pretty chilled, sleep most of the time and curl up easily in those adorable poses. It’s always lovely to capture them during the newborn stage, as it’s such a brief magical time.
At Willow and Rose Photography our style of newborn photography is baby-led. During our sessions your baby is our ultimate guide. Focusing on the simplicity of love, light and texture. Never stress about your baby crying or being fussy. We always schedule longer sessions for newborns, as sometimes babies will want to feed for an hour, then take photos.
Booking your newborn session
Because the window for your newborn photo session is so short, it is best to book a date with your photographer before your baby is born. At Willow and Rose Photography we usually book newborn sessions a week after your due date. Once your little one has arrived we will confirm the shoot date.
Older babies – after 2 weeks
Photo sessions of older babies tend to be with them more alert and opening their eyes to the world. Which is super cute! You just might not get the more traditional newborn photos you’d imagined.
Older babies Around 12 weeks
Another great option for baby photos is when they are giving you lots of smiles! 12 weeks is perfect for this. Babies usually begin to hold their head up at this time as well, giving more gorgeous photo opportunities of a wonderful milestone.
Older babies – Around 5 months
When babies start to get really chubby it’s a great time to get photos done. You won’t regret capturing all those gorgeous rolls. Perfect time is when they start sitting. This usually occurs around 5 months and they are so proud they can achieve this on their own!
